Our First Art Therapy for Ukrainian Teens Session in Tel Aviv

Our first art therapy for Ukrainian teens session in Tel Aviv left us with many tender and meaningful impressions. From the very beginning, we were happy to welcome our first group of Ukrainian teens. They joined a creative session with a professional psychologist. This time, we worked with five participants. Even after just one session, it became clear how much this format is needed.

Why Teens Need Emotional Support

As the psychologist shared, teenage years are among the most emotionally vulnerable. Moreover, nearly every activity showed how important it is for teens to have ongoing emotional support. In addition, the exercises encouraged self-expression and communication, which are essential in art therapy for Ukrainian teens.

A Glimpse Into the Session

One participant, 10-year-old Nicole (not technically a teen, but her mother kindly asked us to include her), created a symbolic self-portrait. She drew small images around the edge of the paper. When asked to describe them, she calmly explained each one. Then, she pointed to one and said: “This is my anxiety.”

The psychologist gently asked, “What helps you deal with your anxiety?” Nicole answered, “Talking to my parents.” Then the psychologist asked, “Anything else? School? Drawing?” She replied, “No. Just talking to my parents.”

Closing the Session with Comfort

At the end of the session, the children picked one color from the table. They described what it meant to them in that moment. For example, Nicole chose brown and said: “It means comfort.”

Moments like this are exactly why we do what we do. Even during this short session, we saw the kids become more open and relaxed. In fact, the tension melted away before our eyes.

The Impact of Art Therapy for Ukrainian Teens

Therefore, it’s clear: art therapy for Ukrainian teens is making a real difference. Furthermore, this work must continue.

Thanks to your support, we can offer more sessions like this. In addition, if you’d like to help, your donation truly makes a difference.
